At the BEACH
HEY, Everyone
Just tought I would stop in and say hi to every one. It sure was a long weekend up in Canada and I am glad that we won. I hate that my friend Creasey got hurt and I have been in touch with him and he is well on his way to getting better, its still going to be tough not to have him around the pits to cut up with but as soon as he feels like it we will get him back in the pits.
My team is at Murfs getting the car ready and putting the updates on it so that it is safer to race. I am so proud of all my guys they work so hard and do such a great job, they are really coming to geather as a team.
As far as me and after souch a rough weekend I am here at the beach hanging out with my family. Its nice to have a few drinks and lay on the beach but I know next week that I have to get focsed for the Grand Bend Race so right now I am just relaxing and having fun.
See you later
Matt
Staying Focused
Well, it has been about 2 weeks since I have been in my funny car and, to me, it feels like 2 months. I can't wait to get back in there and learn something new. I would make laps every day if I could. It never seems to surprise me, but every lap is a little different so I try to learn something new every lap. Talking to Clay, Dale and all these guys that have had hundreds of laps, they say you need about 200 laps before you can say you are able to drive one of these things-boy do I have a long time to go and alot of laps still to make. So far I have been able to make about 45 laps and every one the car has done something different so its hard to get a good routine going-but what do I expect-its a Nitro Funny Car!
I think our main goal this week heading in to Budds Creek is to stay FOCUSED and keep that goal in mind. It is easy after two weeks to get side-tracked and lose focus. We need to get back in the swing of things and get a rythum going again. I know it is really hard not to get caught up in the points chase. Everyone wants to be the champ at the end of the year, but I think the best thing that our team can do is to focus on the small goals at hand trying to be proactve, not reactive. You can't always go around putting out fires. You have to prevent them from happening. I truely believe that it is 70% of how you assemble the parts and 30% tuning and driving. That is why I am set on getting our guys focused and keeping them on track. By doing things like this, the round wins will come and so will winning races.
Can't wait to see all of you at Budds Creek. Stop by the pit and say 'hi' if you get a chance!!
Gearing up to test
Well, we finally got everything back together. Even though we did not hurt anything at our last race, this car just eats alot of parts. There is a lot of wear and tear on all the parts, so you have to check everything and replace most of the parts.
The guys are all rested up and ready to go. They can't wait to get back out there, and neither can I. We are going to try to make about 6 or 8 laps before we get to Milian and hopefully get to try some new things that Jay has in mind. I am so use to making 10-15 laps a week-like last year in my promod car-that I am not use to just working on it for 2 or 3 weeks at a time with out running. This car is so costly to run and you have to have all the guys there to work on it so you have to make every lap count.
We had to put a bigger fuel tank in the car because it kept running out of fuel before the finish line and knocking the burst panal out, so hopefully we have got that problem fixed. This is why we are going to test. We will get these small problems ironed out so that they don't turn into big ones. It is just part of being a new team and a new deal for us.
Hope to see everyone at Milian. Please come by the pit to say 'hi' and check the car out.
Thanks Matt
Success is never final
Failure is never fatal
It's courage that counts.
Comin off our big win at the Rock
Hi everyone, just thought I'd take some time to let you know what's going on with our program. This year has been going nonstop for us. Switching over from promod to nitro funny car has been a big step for us. We have put in alot of hours and time to make the transition as smooth as possible. Our team and myself are still really young and we have alot to learn, but winning at the Rock was a big confidence boost for us and our sponsors. Right now it's all really starting to set in, knowing that we can win and possibly chase the points this year. Our next step is to get the car ready to go to our next test session, where we will try some new things on the race car. I can't wait to get back in the car-it seems like it's been forever and it's only been two weeks. Hope to see everyone out at Milan. Stop by the pit and say "hi".
Thanks,
Matt
